Clay monoprinting was the first medium to truly awakened my artistic gifts. I learned the printing process from Steve Mueller, owner of High Lake Studio and Sculpture Garden, and his brother, Bob Mueller, Print Professor at the University of Florida. The following prints were created at High Lake Studio in West Chicago, IL between the summer of 2006 and fall of 2010. Steve explains the process best:
“The Clay Monoprint was developed by Mitch Lyons. The process uses porcelain slurry mixed with pigment spread on a clay slab. Paper or Pellon is laid on top and pressure is applied using a roller. The process is childishly simple and spectacular in possibility. What you see (on the slab) is never what is revealed. The intrigue is addictive. Mitch should be applauded. And then arrested.”
